Bang! Kapow! In this session, participants will break apart engaging, high-yield strategies for the classroom and learn how to get students thinking with enthusiasm about social studies topics. Shazam! Social Studies offers participants an opportunity to learn about some of the many ways students can experience deep, purposeful learning and reflection. Though social studies is the lens, the strategies imparted are meaningful for any content area. Put on your cape and prepare to save the world! Participants would be able to take several "tools for the tool belt" back to their classrooms. These include various formative and summative assessment measures, strategies for complex source analysis, debate strategies, and writing tools. These will be provided and modeled for participants so they can work in their classrooms to strengthen meaningful instruction. All activities will be in line with Marzano learning frameworks as well, so it will help teachers align their classrooms to more rigorous district expectations for personal and professional growth.
Flipped Classrooms and Blended Learning: Teachers will be able to reflect and think about how they can change their classroom to have more resources available outside of class. Teachers will look for ways to have more time in class to work on student engagement and learning.
This session would involve multiple resources (AI/ Schoology) in order to improve learning for students that are not present during the lesson. Many students are absent for various reasons, including OSS or ISS. These students need resources to help improve their understanding while they are absent. This session will help improve knowledge of the resources available. After this session, teachers would be able to attach resources to their Schoology account to assist in student comprehension. Teachers would know about resources that can be used to attach premade items that would help cover information without having to build it themselves.
